General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) is a three-year diploma course that prepares students to work as registered nurses in hospitals and other healthcare organizations:

  • Course topicsGNM covers a wide range of topics, including human anatomy, physiology, medical-surgical nursing, child health nursing, mental health nursing, and community health. Students also learn about first aid, CPR, and basic life support. 
  • Clinical rotationsGNM students complete clinical rotations in hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. 
  • EligibilityTo be eligible for admission to a GNM course, you must pass the 12th standard with science subjects and biology as a mandatory subject. Some colleges may also conduct entrance exams. 
  • FeesGNM course fees vary depending on the institution, location, and type of college. Government colleges generally have lower fees than private colleges. 
  • Career opportunitiesGNM graduates can work in hospitals, nursing homes, old age homes, orphanages, industries, sanatoriums, and the military. They can also work in education institutions as a nursing tutor, ICU nurse, or infection control nurse.
