1. DURATION OF COURSE:

i)         The duration of course of instruction for the degree of Bachelor of Science in nursing shall be four years including compulsory rotating internship.

ii)        The period of four years will be divided as under:-

Note :- 

  1. Internship means 8 hours of integrated clinical duties in which 2 weeks of evening and night shift duties are included.
  2. Internship should be carried out 8 hours per day @ 48 hours per week.
  3. Students during internship will be supervised by nursing teachers.
  4. Fourth year final examination to be held only after completing internship.
  5. Students must go through the new syllabus for B.Sc nursing 4th year in community health nursing II i.e; Integration of Middle level Health Provider  are updated in college website. (www.svmc.ac.in)

EXAMINATION

(i)        The annual examination for each shall ordinarily be held in the month of July/Aug or on such date as may fixed by the Vice-chancellor. For failed/ re-appear candidate, a supplementary examination shall be held in the month of November / December or on such other dates as may be fixed by the Vice-Chancellor.

(ii)       The date fixed for the receipt of the admission forms and fees for examination without and with late fee, as fixed by the Vice-Chancellor shall be notified by the Controller of Examination. 

ELIGIBILITY TO APPEAR IN THE ANNUAL EXAMINATIONS

To appear in the annual examination candidate must fulfill the following requirements.

  1. Having attended not less than 80% of the full course of lectures and practical’s held in each of the subject and 80% of clinical practicals in Nursing subjects. Provided the Principal of the college shall have authority to rectify shortage in attendance (Theory & Practical) to the extent of 5% in special circumstances.
  • A candidate must have 100% attendance in each of the practical areas before appearing annual exam.
  • Having secured at least 50% marks of the total marks fixed for internal -assessment in each subject, separately, in order to be eligible to appear in all university examinations.
  • According who has completed the prescribe course/ attendance as laid down in the clause and is unable to appear in examination, or having appeared has failed, may be admitted to subsequent examinations.
  • A candidate who has completed the prescribe course/attendance as laid down in the clause and is unable to appear in the examination, or having appeared has failed, may be admitted to subsequent examinations.

INTERNAL ASSESSMENT

(i)        There shall be internal assessment in each subject, for which separate marks will be reserved as under :

  1. Each practical 50% marks.
  2. Each theory paper 50% marks.

(ii)       Each candidate is required to obtain at least 50% marks of the total marks fixed for internal assessment in each subject, separately, in order to be eligible to appear in all university examinations.

(iii)      As per new resolution (3 June 2012) of INC (Indian Nursing Council) No institution shall submit average internal marks of the total  students more than 75% i.e. if 40 students are admitted in a  course the average score of the 40 students shall not exceed 75% of  total internal marks

(iv)      Internal assessment should be submitted to the Controller of Examinations at least two weeks after the commencement of theory examinations.

(v)       The examination will be held according to the syllabus prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council and approved by the Academic Council of the University of Health Sciences, Rohtak.

(vi)      Every candidate shall appear in the theory & practical subjects for first year to final year examination according to the scheme of examination of B.Sc Nursing Course.

MEDIUM OF EXAMINATION

Medium of examination shall be English. Practical examinations will be held

Before / after the theory examination.

Note :

  1. Anatomy and physiology-Question paper will consist of Section A) Anatomy of 37 marks and B) Physiology should be of 38 marks.
  2. Nutrition and Biochemistry and Question paper will consist of Section A) Nutrition of 45 marks and Section B) of Biochemistry of 30 marks.
  3. Pharmacology, genetics, pathology: Section A) Pharmacology with 38 marks, Section B) Pathology of 25 and Genetics with 12 marks.
  4. Nursing Research & Statistics- A) Nursing Research should be of 50 marks and Section B) Statistics of 25 marks.
  5. Minimum pass marks shall be 40% for English only
  6. Theory and Practical exam for introduction to computer and environmental studies also to be conducted as College exam and marks to be sent to the University for Inclusion in the mark sheet.
  7. Minimum pass marks shall be 50% in each of the Theory and practical papers separately.
  8. A candidate must have minimum of 80% attendance (irrespective of the kind of absence) in theory and practical in each subject for appearing for examination.
  9. A candidate must have 100% attendance in each of the practical areas before award of degree.
  10. A candidate has to pass in theory and practical exam separately in each of the paper.
  11. If a candidate fails in either theory or practical paper he/she has to re-appear for both the paper (Theory and Practical)
  12. The candidate shall have cleared all the previous examination before appearing for final year examination.
  13. No institution shall submit average internal marks of the test students more than 75% is if 40 students are admitted in a course the average score of the 40 students shall not exceed 75% of total internal marks.
  14. The maximum period to complete the course successfully should not exceed 8 years.
  15. Maximum number of candidates for practical examination should not exceed 20 per day.
  16. All practical examinations must be held in the respective clinical areas.
  17. One internal and one external examiner should jointly conduct practical examination for each student.
  18. An examiner should be a lecturer or above in a college of nursing with M.Sc (N) in concerned subject and minimum of 3 years of teaching experience. To be an examiner for nursing foundation course faculty having M.Sc (N) with any specialty shall be considered.

PROMOTION AND PASS MARKS

1.         The Candidates if fail in more than one/two subject in any nursing programme they can be promoted to next year. Only two attempts were allowed before 2012 now a candidate can take any number of attempts with a condition that maximum period allowed is as prescribed for each nursing programme. That is, B.Sc Nursing 8 years. However all papers need to be cleared before appearing in the final examination.  

2.         No institution shall submit average internal marks of the total students more than 75% i.e, if 40 students are admitted in a course, the average score of 40 students shall not exceed 75% of total internal marks.

RESULTS

(i)        The Controller of Examinations shall publish the result of examination as soon as possible maximum within one month after the examination.

(ii)       Successful candidates shall be classified as under, on the aggregate marks obtained in all the examinations taken together:-

            (a)       Those who obtain 60%                       1st Division

                        Or more of the total marks.

            (b)       Those who obtain less than 60%        2nd Division

                        of  the total marks.

            (c)       Those who obtain 75% or more         Distinction in the Subject/s

                        Marks in the subjects and / or aggregate Concerned

(iii)      A candidate for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing who has completed his/her course in the minimum prescribed period and has passed each of his/her yearly examinations at first attempt, and has obtained aggregate of seventy five percent of maximum marks in each subject of all the annual examinations, shall at the time of graduation be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in nursing with distinction in subject/s concerned.

INTERNSHIP

(i)        Every candidate shall undergo the compulsory rotatory internship in the parent institution / hospital for a period of 24 weeks after passing the third year examination and before appearing in the 4th year final examination .The final year classes and internship will run concurrently.

(ii)       On successful completion of internship as certified by the principal under whom the training was done, a candidate shall be eligible for award of B.Sc nursing degree.

VACATION

Students will observe vacation as under :-

Winter Break              2 weeks

Summer Break            3 weeks

Sick Leave                  2 weeks

Other Leave                1 week

The above proposed vacations period can be decreased as per requirement and benefit of the students.
